The Mayor of Southwark, Kath Whittam, will abseil down the Abbeyfield Estate’s Maydew House on Friday, to raise money for the National Autistic Society.
Around twenty people will take part in the daring feat, including staff from Keepmoat, Southwark Council, Calford Seadens and British Land.
More than £559 has already been raised for the event, with some of the money also going to the Bede Centre and the Bermondsey Community Kitchen.
Maydew House is currently undergoing building works as part of a wider regeneration project.
Design proposals mentioned in a 2015 Southwark Council Cabinet report said there would be an “additional five storeys to be constructed on top of Maydew”, as well as refurbishing the garages below it for a replacement to the Bede Centre.
The current location of the Bede Centre is proposed to be turned into around “60 council owned flats”.
