The lucky ten will need to commit to raising at least £1,500 for the Mayor, Cllr. Kath Whittam’s, chosen charities – The National Autistic Society, Surrey Docks Farm or the Mayor of Southwark’s Common Good Trust, which provides grants to those in need in Southwark.
The Mayor’s runners will also be required to sign a formal commitment to complete a full training programme.
The deadline to apply for the Mayor’s places is December 2. Successful applicants will be notified by December 9. Applications can be made online at www.southwark.gov.uk. This year, a record 253, 930 runners applied for the London Marathon ballot, with 200,000 left disappointed. The marathon will take place on April 23.
