Residents are being encouraged to shop ethically as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs until March 8.
Councillor Ian Wingfield, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities, Employment and Business for Southwark Council, is calling for local people and businesses to switch to Fairtrade.
To celebrate the launch of this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight, Cllr Wingfield visited Hej, a Fairtrade cafe in Bermondsey Square, SE1.
Cllr Wingfield said: “Fairtrade is about paying producers, some with relatives living here in Southwark, a fair price to help them gain the business skills and knowledge to work their way out of poverty.”
