Students at a Southwark university will put on a version of a “lost” Ancient Greek play this Sunday (July 3).
London South Bank University students in Borough are putting on The Egyptians, a 2,500 year old Greek play by Aeschylus.
Only fragments of the play remain, so – along with theatre professionals like playwright David Greig – the LSBU students and graduates will be testing out material. This will then be used in the final production, which premieres in Kent in February 2023 at the Gulbenkian Arts Centre.
“It’s too hush hush!”: Parents react to the Southwark Primary School Crisis
Professor Gill Foster, LSBU’s head of school of performance said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for LSBU students to be involved in what is an important historical production.”#
The production forms part of wider efforts in different cities across the UK and internationally and will help to create a play similar to what the ancient Greeks may have seen.
