London Metropolitan Police has released the statistics revealing which parts of Southwark saw the most criminality in April.
The News has gathered the data to break down which were the most dangerous wards in the borough for that month.
1. London Bridge and West Bermondsey – 344 Crimes Recorded
The riverside ward stretching from London Bridge to Old Kent Road witnessed significantly less crime in April compared to March.
However, its crime rate was still the highest in Southwark. Packed with bars and clubs, the area is a hotspot for theft, violence and sexual crime.
There were 65 thefts, 61 violence and sexual offences, 53 thefts from the person, and 45 incidents of anti-social behaviour.

2. Borough and Bankside – 327 crimes committed
Borough and Bankside was Southwark’s second most crime-ridden area in April with thefts remaining rampant.
Like London Bridge and West Bermondsey, crime fell overall but it’s high levels of theft are an ongoing concern.
There were 76 thefts, 71 thefts from the person, 57 anti-social behaviour incidents and 28 violence and sexual offences.

3. Rye Lane – 283 Crimes Committed
The Rye Lane area comes third in the list, with crime in April dropping off compared to March.
However, anti-social behaviour and violence and sexual offences remained a real problem for locals.
Outside the Rye Lane entrance to Peckham Rye Station alone, there were 32 incidents including seven bike thefts and four public order offences.
Rye Lane ward saw 60 violence and sexual offences, 57 anti-social behaviour incidents and 27 thefts.

4. North Walworth – 248 crimes committed
North Walworth, bordered by Newington Butts and Old Kent Road, remained at fourth spot in April.
The area around the Tesco at 224 – 226 Walworth Road was a hotspot for stealing, witnessing five shoplifts and five thefts.
Among other crimes North Walworth had 66 anti-social behaviour incidents, 47 violent and sexual offences and 28 thefts from the person.

5. Rotherhithe – 181 crimes committed
Crime in Rotherhithe was climbing steadily from January to March but April signaled a break in the trend.
While violence and anti-social behaviour remains an issue, crime levels plummeted overall.
April saw 35 violence and sexual offences, 33 anti-social behaviour incidents, 19 thefts and 15 burglaries.

Some wards are bigger than others so it’s difficult to say where crime is concentrated most. It would be good to change the metric to include reporting on crime committed per measurement area, maybe by hectare.
