A man has confessed to brutally hitting his friend over the head with an axe in Streatham while he lay in bed.
Mohammed Fadla, 38, pleaded guilty to attempted murder at the Old Bailey following the axe-attack on July 23 last year.
His victim miraculously managed to survive, suffering multiple cuts to the head and nearly losing his ear.
The court heard that Fadla had attacked him in his flat in Streatham Vale – but said he had no recollection of doing it, claiming to suffer with multiple mental health issues.
It is said that the victim’s roommate witnessed Fadla beating his friend with the weapon, and rushed to flag someone who could call police.
The court was told Fadla then also fled scene, driving away in the van he was living in. However, he subsequently asked a passer-by to phone the police and turned himself in.
He is due to be sentenced on August 9.
