Surrey Quays shopping centre is holding a free four-day bash from today to celebrate its thirtieth birthday – and everyone is invited.
The celebrations will see a pop-up silent disco at the centre, with tracks chosen by local charities that the centre works with, to get shoppers dancing.
A hand-drawn mural of the centre and the surrounding cityscape will also be on display, with panels representing some of the charities that the centre works with. Next to it will be a wishing well for shoppers to make donations to the good causes.
Ian Moore, centre manager at Surrey Quays, said: “Over the years, we’ve been extremely lucky to be able to support some brilliant organisations and charities that really make a difference in our local community.
“We thought our 30th birthday would be the perfect chance for us to get the entire community together to celebrate. We hope our shoppers, community partners, and their friends and families enjoy all the fun activities we’re running over the four days.”
Throughout the four-day celebrations, Surrey Quays will also be giving away 30 gifts to shoppers chosen at random, including Odeon and Hollywood bowl vouchers, as well as hosting party games in front of The Range.
Jonathan Douglas, Director of the National Literacy Trust – one of the charities Surrey Quays support, said: “For the past six years we have worked with Surrey Quays to help more than 1,500 children discover a love of reading through our Young Readers Programme.
“Books have the power to transform children’s lives and through our partnership with Surrey Quays we have put 4,600 books into the hands of children who need them the most – for many, these were the first books they had ever owned.
“We are excited to be a part of the shopping centre’s 30th anniversary celebrations and we look forward to continuing our important work together.”
The pop-up silent disco room will be located in front of The Range and is open from 11am to 5pm from today until the 28th October.
It’s free, but places are on a first come, first serve basis.
