The Tesco Extra in Surrey Quays has been chosen as one of ten stores across the country to take part in a groundbreaking new scheme redistributing unused food to people in need.
Using an app developed by food charity FareShare, store managers will alert local charities to the amount of surplus food they have at the end of the day.
Charities will then be able to confirm how much food they would like, collect it from the store for free and then use it to feed those in need.
Tesco threw away over 55,000 tonnes of food last year, of which 30,000 could have been eaten.
