The Shard is set to switch on its Christmas display next week – and it will be dedicated to NHS staff who kept the public safe during Covid.
Every year, the top 20 storeys of the tallest building in the country are lit up. Last year the light show had been designed with the help of Bermondsey school children.
However, this year the display will be a ‘coded message’ to Londoners.
The Shard had already lit up blue throughout the pandemic to show support for NHS workers, and held a display on the 4th and 5th of July to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NHS.
According to Real Estate Management, which owns the Shard, the display will be split into two themes.
“The first theme will be visible for just under a month, with the second starting in mid-December, it said.
“Both will include coded messages to London and lead up to a grand finale on New Year’s Eve.”
The lights will return next week on Thursday, November 26.
