Tower Bridge Road and Southwark Street closed to traffic because of fallen scaffolding on Friday (February 18), after a similar incident took place on Walworth Road amid Storm Eunice’s high winds, police have said.
Southwark Police said in a tweet: “Please avoid Tower Bridge Road. The road has been closed due to fallen scaffolding.” Tower Bridge reopened at about 2.30pm on Friday.
Officers added in another post: “Please avoid Southwark Street – collapsing scaffold.”
Walworth Road was also closed off to traffic after scaffolding collapsed on top of a building this morning (Friday February 18). It is unclear if anyone was hurt in any of the three incidents.
The two incidents come as Londoners were warned to stay at home today if at all possible amid the high winds of Storm Eunice.

The chair of London Councils, Cllr Georgia Gould, said: “Boroughs are working hard to maintain essential local services and support our communities in the face of Storm Eunice.
“It’s really important that we only travel when absolutely necessary. If you have to, please check with TfL and National Rail for service updates and allow more time.
“Boroughs are also ready to respond if there are reports of damaged buildings or trees.
“Please be prepared, stay safe, look out for each other and keep travel to a minimum.”
