He had that smile, that cheekiness, that cockiness. We got closer before he died but you just don’t know when something is going to happen. The one word that sticks with me is ‘goodbye’. –Dylan Lancaster

I knew him for eight years, he was like a big brother. He used to come around and we’d just sit outside having fun and making jokes. No-one could touch his hair! – Cody Godsell

He was a young lad so always had things he would have preferred to do than working in the stall, but he had a good attitude and was great to have around. We’re like a family in the stall and he was like a brother to me. – East Street Market stall worker Mitchell Donn

Ben was a young man who was the best of our community. Devoted son, grandson brother and nephew; a good worker, clearly appreciated by his workmates in East Street market; on the way to improving his skills through an apprenticeship, and someone who enjoyed his football and was good at it. Ben was a lovely and popular individual who brought sunshine into many lives. Many people miss him terribly, and we send his brave family all our love and support. People acting wickedly have taken away his life. Nobody can take away his memory or all the times he brightened up so many lives. – Sir Simon Hughes, former MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark.
