A young man is in a life-threatening condition after being stabbed in Peckham.
Police were called to Southampton Way, Peckham at 10.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, June 23) to reports of a stabbing.
The 20-year-old was rushed to a South London hospital where he is now said to be fighting for his life.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Southampton Way resident Peter said: “It was chaos. There were lots of police. I think it was something big and the road was closed off.”
According to residents, police remained at the scene until the early hours of the morning.
Peter said it worries him because acts of extreme violence often take place “right outside my door”.
Nick Flower, the Chair of the Southampton Way Estate Tenants’ and Residents’ Association said: “It happens a couple of times a year around here. There are gangs of teenagers with various different rivalries.
“People find it very upsetting and concerning – it does stress them out. Especially people who have got teenage boys.”
Nick believes that stabbings happen because of “draconian school exclusions”.
