A bit of of extra sparkle came to Elephant and Castle before Christmas at the latest Posh Club cabaret and afternoon tea for senior citizens.
Returning after a successful event in 2017, the Posh Club gets older people and volunteers together at a fun afternoon social reminiscent of the glory days of working class cabaret shows.
Organised by Duckie, the event saw the London College of Communication’s studio in Elephant and Castle shopping centre decked out for Christmas while volunteers in black tie served up afternoon tea in vintage crockery.
One volunteer, Natasha Mays, who works as a front of house assistant for the college, said growing up around grandparents and great-grandparents made her want to help other older people living in the area.
“I was lucky enough to have great grandparents until I was fifteen and my grandparents are still alive and well,” she said, “so elderly people have always been a really important part of
my life.
“That was part of the reason I wanted to get involved as a volunteer, but also it just looked amazingly fun.
“I ended up having a wicked time. The volunteers I met there were all lovely, and I love the concept.
“When all the guests first come in, they’re strangers, but by the end of it you feel you’ve seen a side of them that maybe hasn’t come out for a long time.
“They absolutely love it.”
