A man and woman were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire in Camberwell this morning (Tuesday, May 25).
Four fire engines and 25 firefighters arrived to tackle the blaze at Wells Way at 11am, bringing it under control an hour later. Part of the ground floor was damaged.
Both residents had managed to leave the terraced building before the fire brigade arrived.
The cause is now being investigated.
Sub Officer Andrew Ajimal, who was at the scene, said: “As we arrived, there was a substantial amount of thick, black smoke coming from the front window of the house and a large fire had developed at the back of the property.
“Crews quickly accessed the building and searched the property to confirm that nobody was inside.
“The majority of the damage was to the kitchen and crews worked really hard to bring the fire under control and prevent further damage.
“Road closures were in place whilst crews worked to make the scene safe.”
