Detectives investigating last month’s horrific rape in Burgess Park are calling for witnesses to help with their investigation.
The incident took place late in the evening on Tuesday 22 February at around 10:30 p.m.
Police were called at 10:34 p.m. on Tuesday after the victim, who is in her late teens, reported the attack.
A witness, who discovered the girl shortly after the attack, told The News that the victim suffered a facial injury.
A police spokesperson later confirmed these details.
The victim was taken to hospital and officers temporarily sealed off the small car park off Wells Way, near the underpass, and a second larger area near the football pitch for the two days.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
The investigation is being led by the Central South area’s Public Protection team and they have carried out a number of enquiries including reviewing CCTV, conducting forensic examinations and tests, and patrolling the area.
Out on the streets with the police officers trying to tackle sexual violence in Southwark
Detectives are encouraging witnesses of the attack or anyone with any information to come forward to help with their investigation.
“Tackling violence, including sexual violence, remains our top operational priority. We are absolutely committed to doing everything we can to keep women and girls safe, and to feel safe,” said a spokesperson for the Met.
“While we fully recognise both concern and fear about violence aimed at women and girls, it is also important to stress that London remains one of the safest cities in the world.”
“However, if you do feel unsafe or have been the victim of a crime, then please contact us in whatever way you feel most comfortable,” they added. “Whether that is by calling 101, Tweeting @MetCC, visiting www.met.police.uk, approaching a patrolling officer.”
“Please be reassured that you will be listened to and supported, with respect and dignity, and that any crime will be investigated fully,”

Burgess park should have proper lighting. How many more rapes or attempted rapes are needed before the council will install lighting?
