Veolia Southwark’s ‘Wonder Day’ will return next Saturday, September 17, allowing residents a sneak peek inside the borough’s recycling centre.

The day takes place at the Southwark Integrated Waste Management Facility near Old Kent Road, which was built to deal with over 200,000 tonnes of waste annually.

All black bag waste from the borough is brought to the facility and turned into a low carbon fuel, which provides energy to the National Grid, and heating for around 2,500 Southwark homes.

Tours of the facility take place throughout the day to give residents insight into how waste can be a resource to build a sustainable future.

As well as the tours there will be entertainment including meeting R3cycle, the remote controlled robot made from old recycling bins and playing on a mini version of the facility at the Recycling Discovery Centre.

Alongside all this there will be the junk orchestra, arts and crafts and free refreshments.
