Rangers fans blocked cars, sang and danced, as they poured onto the streets around London Bridge during their side’s Europa League Final match against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Supporters of the Scottish football team, whose singing could be heard far along Tooley Street, stopped a taxi and delivering driver getting through on Wednesday, May 18.
Rangers drew the game 1-1, losing 5-4 on penalties, meaning they miss out on automatic Champions League qualification.
Speaking to the News at half-time, Jake Birch, 26, said: “It’s 0-0 at half time but we’ve been the better side. If we win, we’re not going home!”
Alek McDonald, born in Glasgow, but now living in New Zealand, said: “We’ve been playing badly so far. But if we win we’re gonna have a party. I’ve lost my voice – I can barely speak!”
Many of the fans weren’t Scottish but claimed heritage through friends, family, or religious roots.
Gers supporter Adam Reid said: “I’m half Northern Irish. My Dad’s protestant so he’s orange. There are lots of Northern Irish fans here.”
The final was played in Seville but London-based fans unable to make the trip watched it on screens around the capital.
According to ESPN, an estimated 100,000 Rangers fans made it to Seville for the game.
