A school football team is celebrating becoming champions for the first time in 30 years.
The Walworth Academy team lifted the South London under 13s cup after beating London Nautical 4-3 in the final – the first time Walworth has won the championship since 1986.
Hamzad Kargbo, Walworth Academy’s captain, said: “We played as a team. We played with belief. We never gave up as a team until the final whistle.”
Principal, Yvonne Powell, said: “I am exceptionally proud of our year eight football team.
“In the semi-final they demonstrated true resilience to win the game after being 2-0 down and now they are champions with 4-3 win against Archbishop Tenison.”
