A foodbank run by English Martyrs Catholic Church is appealing for donations to help feed those in need.
Having given food to 46 people in just one day recently, the foodbank is starting to struggle with the demand.
Philomena O’Gorma, a volunteer, said: “We get a certain amount of money from the parish but sometimes we don’t have enough. We do our best. This morning [Tuesday] we had twelve people coming before nine o’clock which has never happened before.
“The over flow has not stopped. We had more than 70 people in one week. In one day we had 46 people. It was started by Father Thomas when he came to the parish. People were ringing the door asking for food and he found it distressing.”
People can donate tinned food on Mondays 10am – 5pm and Tuesdays and Wednesday 10am – 2pm, at the English Martyrs Catholic Parish Hall in Wadding Street, SE17.
