Peckham McDonald’s customers were horrified to see a video online claiming to be of the restaurant’s drinks machine covered in a mass of earthworms.
Posted by TikTok user @McOldKentRoad, the grotesque video was purportedly taken from within the McDonalds on Old Kent Road.
The video has been seen more than 400,000 times, with 4,000 likes and over 300 comments.
One user said they eat at the restaurant “at least once a week” to which @McOldKentRoad responded “don’t”. Another said the video “looks like something out of stranger things.”

A spokesperson for McDonalds said: “We take cleanliness and hygiene extremely seriously. Unfortunately, a number of weeks ago we were made aware of an issue in the drain serving the drinks station at our Old Kent Road restaurant.
“We immediately closed the drinks station and our hygiene team identified the cause of the issue which was fixed before a deep clean was carried out.
“The area was inspected by external specialists and no drinks were served to customers until we were sure that the issue was fully resolved.”
McDonald’s also said specialists confirmed it was an “isolated incident, not an infestation”, and confirmed that despite the theorising of several TikTok commenters, the creatures were earthworms, not maggots.
Worms live in the soil so they could only have come from the soil unless put their deliberately. This is a fake video
