The naughtiest cats in London’s 32 boroughs have been revealed by a new study, writes Joshua Askew…
Southwark had the third-highest number of fire brigade call-outs for trapped cats across all of the capital’s boroughs.
The London Fire Brigade was dispatched to the borough 168 times over the last twelve years by concerned citizens and frantic owners, equivalent to more than once a month.
Getting stuck up trees, in chimney flues and on the roofs of buildings were the most common reasons why the fire brigade was called to rescue our felines.
Added together the central boroughs of Southwark, Newham, Lambeth are home to the most prolific cat offenders, clocking up a total of 511 call-outs between them, according to research by ProtectaPet, a company that makes fences to protect cats.
The worst borough for cat safety was Haringey in north London, with 177 call-outs over the same period, whereas suburban cats, especially those in Havering, Harrow and Merton, were the best behaved, totalling 199 calls between them.
“Cats love to be outside exploring,” said Eve Davies, Director at ProtectaPet. “Sadly, with an unrestricted territory, they can sometimes find themselves in some rather tricky situations.”
