Work has begun on 26 new council homes and 30 private flats on the site of the former Cherry Garden school in Bermondsey.
The Southwark Park Road building will range in size from two storey terraces to five and six storeys. Developers Higgins, who will be selling the private flats, are due to complete building work in 2023.
Councillor Stephanie Cryan, cabinet member for council homes and homelessness, said, “I’m delighted that works have started on this fantastic development which will provide 26 much-needed new council homes for the local community.”

Of the 26 new council homes, eleven will be 3-bed flats, eight will be 2-bed and seven will be one-bed. Six flats will be wheelchair-accessible. Thirteen local council tenants who need new housing will be able to apply for flats in the new development. The new scheme will also include 150 square metres of retail space.
