A Bermondsey postman raised more than £1,000 for the Greenwich and Bexley Hospice at Epsom Racecourse last weekend.
Jimmy Haughney lost his friend and colleague Paul Honour, 48, to brain cancer earlier this year, and fought in a Queensbury Boxing League bout against Lee Cannon, with money raised going to the hospice that cared for Paul.
Haughney unluckily lost a close fight to former light-middleweight contender Cannon, but achieved his main aim in passing the £1,000-mark.
However, Haughney, 38, is looking for a re-match against Cannon that could take place in July.
Speaking to the News, Haughney said: “I’m disappointed with the result but I’m looking for to going again with Lee, and will definitely get the right result next time.
“It was a close fight. I’m not one to complain, and I’ll be back even better and stronger in July.”
