MILLWALL LIONESSES produced a stunning display to come back from two goals down to extend their unbeaten league run to eleven games after Ashlee Hincks’ penalty gave them a dramatic 3-2 win against London Bees at the Hive last weekend.
The Bees went in front after just three minutes through Jo Wilson before Emma Beckett doubled the advantage. But the Lionesses responded with two brilliant goals from Charlie Devlin either side of half-time.
Hincks then converted from the spot after Ocean Rolandsen had handballed to give the visitors three points and maintain their one-point lead at the top of the FA Women’s Super League 2 table. Rianna Dean could have made it four when her shot came back off the crossbar, but boss Lee Burch admitted his side hadn’t played to their normal level.
He said: “I have to apologise to the Bees’ manager, to be honest, we were pretty poor and we probably didn’t deserve to get anything out of the game. “First half, we definitely played poorly. We made some tactical changes second half and that is one thing I was really pleased to see the girls take on board.
“It did help but it was down to a couple of pieces individual brilliance. “At the moment looking at it, we were not happy with the performance at all. We’re just ecstatic to come away with any points.
“We did show character and resilience, we do feel we’ve got that in our tanks to come from behind and win games, like we did against Watford and Doncaster. “But we have to stop doing it. We need to remedy it but unfortunately it is still happening.” Millwall Lionesses: 4-3-3 Sarah Quantrill, Jordan Butler, Megan Alexander, Bonnie Horwood, Charlie Devlin, Megan Wynne, Georgie Giddings, Ellie Rutherford, Ashlee Hincks, Ellie Mason, Brionne Fowle Substitutes: Rianna Dean for Fowle (45), Sammie Booker for Rutherford (64), Vicki Wotton for Butler (86) Substitutes not used: Grace Taylor, Poppy Payne, Beth Powell, Leanne Cowan Attendance: 451
