BURGESS SPORTS is hoping to provide an “extraordinary opportunity” to young people who want to become involved in sports coaching and youth initiatives.#
The Southwark Volunteer Academy will recruit and train up to 20 young volunteers and increase their skills in coaching, sport nutrition and organising a sports event, among others.
The Volunteer Academy is being managed and delivered by Burgess Sports representatives who were themselves once volunteers.
A spokesperson said former volunteers “understand the importance of giving young people the opportunity to learn in informal settings and the importance of giving young people the opportunity to better themselves and give back to the communities in which they live and reside.
“I am sure this is an extraordinary opportunity for young people that will provide them with a great pathway to building up a solid future.”
It is hoped as a result that volunteers will be able to find placements and employment opportunities with Burgess Sports and some of their partners, including Creation Trust, QPR and Access to Sports.
Burgess Sports is working closely with StreetGames to use volunteering and doorstep sport to improve lives and communities surrounding Burgess Park.
