STREATHAM & MARLBOROUGH Cricket Club has been chosen out of thousands of clubs all over the country to host the showcase day for this year’s NatWest CricketForce.
The Dulwich club are hoping to promote the sport in the area and attract new members. Club member Ben Hawkin said: “This is obviously great news for all sports in our local area, as well as the club itself, which is an extremely welcoming, diverse and family-friendly club including a Ladies team and a youth section that has a long and proud track record of encouraging and supporting youngsters of all ages and backgrounds to take up and excel at cricket.
“The importance of clubs such as ours to the local community, particularly an inner London borough in these challenging social and economic times, really cannot be overstated.”
The showcase takes place on Friday, March 31 when there will be at least one current England player, at least one former England player and several current Surrey players taking part.
There will be various activities, free CricketForce T-shirts and opportunities to win bats and cricket gear – and to get bats signed – as well as a barbecue.
Those interested in training and/or playing for the club will be able to sign up on the day.
