A seven wicket defeat at the hands of Esher on Saturday has ended Dulwich Cricket Club’s hope of promotion from Division Two of the Travelbag Surrey Championship.

The Southwark side went into last Saturday’s game needing two wins from their two remaining fixtures to keep alive their hopes of promotion but they fell at the first hurdle.

Instead Esher, who sit in the second promotion spot in the table, strengthened their claims with a resounding victory.

Dulwich batted first at the weekend and could only muster 188 before being bowled out in the 47 over.

The fact they got that target was largely down to opener Tom Savill whose 94 from 114 balls held the Dulwich innings together.

Although four other players got into double figures none could make a significant contribution to help Dulwich post a more testing target.

Esher’s Henry Foster proved to be the chief tormentor with the ball, ending with figures of six for nineteen from just 8.5 overs.

Although Naeem Iqbal took the wicket of William Edwards for just two when Esher batted Dulwich struggled to make inroads into their opponents batting order.

In the end a score of 95 from Alex Martin was the knock on which the successful run chase was built, with Esher reaching their target in the 38 over.
