Aussie opener Aaron Finch blasted a quick fire 50 that helped Surrey comprehensively defeat Somerset in a crucial T20 encounter.
The 29-year-old ended up hitting 51 off 26 balls, a knock that included five fours and three sixes.
His efforts were the mainstay of Surrey’s total of 154, a score that proved well beyond Somerset especially as Jade Dernbach was in great form with the ball, taking three for 32, as Surrey won by fifteen runs.
The win was crucial as it keeps Surrey in one of the four quarter final qualifying spots in the south table and came on the back of a defeat against group leaders Gloucestershire.
Although Surrey posted 151 at the County Ground an unbeaten 73 from the home sides Ian Cockbain eased Gloucester home by six wickets and with an over to spare.
In the County Championship game against Warwickshire last week Finch starred once again, making a first innings hundred, but Surrey lost out to the Midlands club despite his efforts.
Spin proved to be Surrey’s undoing with Jeetan Patel taking five wickets in each innings as Warwickshire romped home by a ten wicket margin.
That loss leaves the Kennington side second bottom in Division One as they go into this week’s County Championship game against Yorkshire.
