MILLWALL LIONESSES came from two goals down and then held off a fightback to seal a second thrilling win in a week at The Hive Stadium against London Bees.
Lee Burch’s side appeared to be in serious trouble inside just fourteen minutes after goals from Destiney Toussaint and Jo Wilson left them trailing.
Rianna Dean’s goal in the 40th minute put a spring in her side’s step going into half-time, before Ashlee Hincks equalised six minutes after the break. Ellie Mason put the Lionesses ahead after an hour, before Hincks seemingly settled this FA WSL Continental Tyre Cup tie with her second.
But Toussaint’s second with five minutes left made it a very finale. The Lionesses, though, hung on as they look to progress to the knockout stage. “It was close to being exactly the same [as the result last week, the game ending 3-2 to the Lionesses] even down to the minutes,” Burch said.
“This group at the moment, they understand when they do go behind they’ve got the ability to get back in the game. “It’s something we are trying to remedy, we can’t keep doing it, but it is nice to know that if we go behind we’ve got the ability and belief to get back into the game. “We’ve trying to put our finger on it for a while. We’ve tried lots of different things and we will continue, but even today the goal we’ve gone behind to, I don’t think she meant it – it’s a cross that’s just gone in.
“The other day against Arsenal, Beth Mead’s cracked one in from 30 yards into the top corner, so sometimes we’ve got to credit the opposition and sometimes it’s just bad luck.”
