MILLWALL LIONESSES’ Jordan Butler said it was “a great feeling” after her side got their second Spring Series win of the season last weekend. The Lionesses defeated rivals London Bees 2-1 at The Hive, with the goals coming from Ella Rutherford and Charlie Devlin.
Rutherford put her side ahead when she scored her second goal of the season in the sixteenth minute. On-loan Arsenal attacker Devlin notched her second in two games in the 24th minute to double her side’s lead. Ashleigh Goddard pulled a goal back for the Bees after the break but the Lionesses held on.
Afterwards, Butler said: “It’s a great feeling, I said in the pre-match that it was a massive game for us, it’s a derby and they had a point to prove because we beat them in the FA Cup. The three points is an amazing feeling, the girls are all buzzing and it’s something nice to go home to and celebrate the Easter weekend with the family.
“Coming in at half time 2-0 up we knew they were going to come out and, unfortunately, we didn’t secure it at the start and they came back to make it 2-1. “So it was a massive finish to the game where we had to just hold off, stay tight and compact and not let them get back again so we finished with the three points, which is what we did.
It was a great feeling at the end.” The Lionesses’ next game is at home to Oxford United on Saturday April 22 at St Paul’s Sports Ground in Rotherhithe. Kick-off is 5.30pm.
