This was Fiona’s first marathon, after “topping her tan at mile nineteen last year”, writes Daniel Sexton…
The 34-year-old from East Dulwich was raising funds for Diabetes UK to try to help find a cure, after four people in her family had been affected by Type 1 or 2.
On the day, ten people were supporting her in the crowd, but she only managed to spot her mum.
She said the best bit was Embankment, and the worst part was at mile eighteen, as Canary Wharf is particularity hard – and someone ran in front of her with a coffee.
Fiona completed the marathon in 3:59:23. Upon crossing the line, she said it was “the best day of my life. I loved it. The crowd were great”.
She then celebrated by having two pints, the first bit of alcohol she has had in four months.
Fiona is moving to New York soon but has plans of running in the New York marathon and also redoing the London marathon again.
She has also smashed her target of £1950, raising £2375 so far.
