VP STANSFELD MOVED smoothly into the next round of the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy with this convincing win, and gained revenge for a defeat earlier in the season against Meridian VP.
Stansfeld grabbed the lead in the nineteenth minute, Harry Gamble in the right place to finish off after a knockdown from Lennie Wise.
Stansfeld continued to push forward and doubled their lead just before the break, and it was Gamble getting his second goal of the game, firing home smartly after good work from Jake Williams.
Stansfeld came out for the second half full of confidence and kept pressing forward, though Meridian never sat back and looked dangerous on the break. However, Stansfeld punished their opponents again in the 61st minute after a great run and cross from left-back Frankie Beale was anticipated by Billy Shinners who chested the ball down and finished from twelve yards.
Lewis Collier kept the three-goal cushion intact with an excellent save, but he could do nothing to prevent Anthony Opoku giving his side hope with a goal nine minutes from time. Despite that scare, Stansfeld wrapped up the game when Shinners got his second his side’s fourth with a minute left to ensure comfortable progress to the second round. Man of the match: Lennie Wise Stansfeld Reserves didn’t play at the weekend, while the 3rd team went down 2-1 away to Old Roan, Richard Gurney with his side’s goal.
