Six young members of Southwark Gymnastics Club were awarded a total of £800 to create products to support mental health during the lockdowns.
Last July, two of their young coaches, Cara Russell and Stephanie Davantin, applied for the London Youth Microgrant in a bid to spread awareness about mental health.
They had the task of creating an idea to support the community through lockdown and came up with two: a ‘Mood Box’ – containing stress balls, candles and planners – and a mental health calendar. Both were accepted and they were awarded £400 per project.
Since September 2020 they have been working alongside club director Levent Charles to create and distribute the products.
The club are currently distributing the products for free.
