STANSFELD/ELTHAM PALACE were brought crashing back down to earth after losing 6-0 at home to K Sports on Monday. Stansfeld were under strength, and couldn’t perform to the same level that earned them a 7-2 win at Lewisham the previous week.
Their luck was never likely to be in, after George Stuart and Freddie Sansom both picked up strains in the warm-up, leaving them with only one substitute. Stansfeld fell behind after just two minutes when Michael Russell headed in a corner. The home side rallied and grew into the game, but Nick Nowotny made it 2-0 against the run of play to put K Sports in control at the break.
Sam Winch scored a third ten minutes into the second half before Stansfeld showed commendable fight to prevent their opponents running riot. But tiredness eventually told, and they conceded three times in the last five minutes to give the final scoreline a flattering look for K Sports.
Stansfled are in fifteenth place in the Southern Counties East Football League Division One table, nine points ahead of Gravesham Borough who are one place below them. Their final league game this season is at home to Bridon Ropes on Saturday April 22 at 3.00pm. The 1st Team drew 0-0 away at Bexley this week.
