Toby Eckersley, Conservative candidate for London Bridge and West Bermondsey ward, has died unexpectedly, forcing the ward’s election to be suspended while today’s borough-wide poll goes ahead as planned. The News understands that the 76-year-old Alderman of the borough passed away suddenly last weekend. He had served as a Conservative councillor in Dulwich’s Village ward from 1977 to 1986 and from 1990 to 2014, and had chosen to stand again for London Bridge and West Bermondsey ward in today’s election.
